3G LTE is currently a major standard of interest to all mobile/ wireless equipment and service providers and is likely to be the next generation step in mobile communications. LTE brings with it the promise of peak download rates of at least 100 Mbit/s and upload rates 50 Mbit/s. The standard utilises a number of signal processing techniques to achieve these rates including Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) for the downlink, Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) for the uplink and multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO). Supported modulation formats include QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM.
